WebSphere Studio Asset Analyzer просматривает программные активы мэйнфреймов и распределенные программные активы и сохраняет необходимую информацию о приложениях в репозитории DB2, который находится на мэйнфрейме. При этом не требуется загружать перечень приложений z9 и System z на рабочую станцию или загружать перечень распределенных приложений на мэйнфрейм. WebSphere Studio Asset Analyzer просматривает исходный код там, где он находится: в наборах данных PDS/PDSE на мэйнфрейме, в каталогах Windows или AIX, либо в одной из множества систем управления конфигурированием программного обеспечения (SCM).
WebSphere Studio Asset Analyzer поддерживает просмотр распределенных активов в системах IBM Rational ClearCase, CVS и PVCS. Для активов мэйнфреймов поддерживаются системы Serena ChangeMan ZMF и SCLM. Поддержка других систем управления конфигурированием программного обеспечения возможна с использованием программы пользователя. При этом для обращения к системе SCM применяется предоставленная пользователем программа. (Необходимо программирование.) Возможен просмотр Web-приложений на серверах WebSphere Application Servers, работающих под управлением ОС Windows или AIX. Кроме исходного кода приложений WebSphere Studio Asset Analyzer просматривает подсистемы CICS и IMS мэйнфреймов, каталог DB2 и распределенные домены WebSphere Application Server.
WebSphere Studio Asset Analyzer помогает ускорить процесс усовершенствования приложений и повысить качество за счет автоматизации стадии обнаружения цикла разработки. Расходы на этой стадии могут составлять почти одну треть всех расходов на разработку проекта.
